Doctor Who: Ranking The Doctor's Sonic Screwdrivers Worst To Best

4. The Seventh And Eighth Doctors' Sonic Screwdriver

Despite not using a sonic screwdriver on-screen during his tenure, the Seventh Doctor had acquired a similar model to the Fourth Doctor's by the 1996 TV Movie.

Upon regeneration, the Eighth Doctor claimed this classic, tubular device with its silver ring and red emitter for his own, and used it until his death on Karn in 2013's The Night of the Doctor.

Unlike his predecessors' versions, this emitter could also glow like one of the more modern sonics. The casing was also telescopic - meaning it could be collapsed or extended depending on what use the Doctor had for it. In the TV Movie, this included sealing the Master's remains in his urn and repairing some hard to reach sections under the TARDIS console.

The Eighth Doctor also possessed a secondary steampunk model throughout his Big Finish Audio Adventures and Titan Comics appearances, which is worth an honourable mention.

With a jagged blue crystal connected with rings and wires to a wooden handle, this model looked particularly cool and in-fitting with the style of this unique Doctor.

Sound Advice: Always good to carry a spare.
