Michelle Gomez was fantastic as Missy, stealing the scene every time the camera fell on her. The argument could even be made that she laid the groundwork for Jodie Whittaker to become the first female Time Lord. Time Lady?

If Missy were to appear, either as Michelle Gomez or recast, it would certainly provide a strong villain and presumably a series arc. There are a few unexplained plot threads that have been swept under the carpet, but could just as easily be woven into a tapestry of Missy’s master plan.

Obviously, there are some complications with bringing her back. For one, she’s dead. But you get the impression that with Chris Chibnall at the head of a sci fi show, a little death isn’t going to stop the story from progressing. Her death was also part of a redemption arc, so they’ll need to earn her comeback without cheapening the scene in The Doctor Falls.

However, if they do manage to pull it off, a return of his legendary character will easily be the series’ high point. Could they be the fabled voice the Doctor recognises?
