Doctor Who Series 12: 10 Huge Questions After Fugitive Of The Judoon

9. What Has The Doctor Been Doing On Gallifrey?

The Doctor is keeping secrets from her companions, leaving them behind for lone trips to Gallifrey. We know a bit more than they do - that the Doctor’s home-world is in ruins, but exactly what is she doing on her repeated visits? She claims to be looking for the Master, but after he confessed to destroying their home planet, that’s surely the last place she would find him hanging out.

The Doctor’s mood is increasingly erratic and she is struggling to hide her grief. These frequent trips to a planet-wide graveyard can’t be helping. The more she looks, the more horrors she would find. Is she searching for survivors, or clues as to how and why the Master committed genocide? And why the repeat visits… is it desperation, denial, or is she onto something?

The Doctor’s excuse for not taking Graham, Yaz and Ryan with her (she tells them it is because they are always asking questions) is unconvincing. She loves how they challenge everything – it makes them the perfect companions. She could be keeping the horrors to herself because they are deeply personal, but more likely she is wanting to protect them. This means something is happening still, something dangerous, something she is determined to get to the bottom of.
