Doctor Who Series 13 Starts Filming: 10 Early Predictions For What We'll See

4. More Information About The Timeless Child

The Series 12 finale was the most divisive episode of Doctor Who since the show returned in 2005 - and maybe even the most divisive episode ever.

Chris Chibnall completely rewrote the Doctor's backstory by revealing that their DNA was used to give the Time Lords their regenerative powers, and while the episode seemed quite definitive in giving us this information, there's quite a lot of debate within the fandom about whether or not the Timeless Child twist is actually true.

Some fans believe that it was all a lie cooked up by the Master and the Matrix, and that there are still more details about the Timeless Child that haven't been revealed to us yet. And based on some of Chibnall's own comments... that might just be the case.

In early 2020, the showrunner said that the end of Series 12 will set up some of the storylines for Series 13. Now sure, there was that cliffhanger with the Doctor stuck in space prison, but since that'll be resolved in Revolution Of The Daleks, our prediction here is that Chibnall is hinting at more Timeless Child reveals in the upcoming series.

The fact of the matter is, nothing that the Matrix showed us clearly indicated that the Doctor is definitely the Timeless Child, so Chibnall still has some wiggle room here. Whether he chooses to retcon his own twist remains to be seen, but either way, it's highly likely that this whole Timeless Child story isn't over quite yet. Buckle up kids.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
