6. The Guest Stars
The big guest star announcement was that of Maisie Williams, best known as Arya Stark (/Lana/no one) in Game of Thrones. She appeared right at the end of the series 9 trailer, asking "what took you so long, old man?" It prompted a lot of speculation as to who she'd be playing, with the feeling that it'd be someone from The Doctor's past. River, Jenny, Susan, and Romana were all mentioned, however Moffat has now stated that she "is not playing a returning character. She's not someone from the Doctor's past. Unless I'm lying!" We'll find out whether he's been up to his usual tricks in Williams' episodes, which are numbers The Girl Who Died and The Woman Who Lived (which may or may not be an alternate reality re-t Other confirmed guest stars include Jemma Redgrave, who will be reprising her role as Kate Stewart in the series 9 opener, while another Game of Thrones actor joins the list of those to appear in both shows, with Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr) appearing in episodes 3 and 4. There will also be a a couple of reunions in series 9, with Reece Shearsmith confirmed to be starring in the Mark Gatiss episode, and The Thick of It's Rebecca Front appearing alongside Capaldi in episodes 7 and 8. Other notable names include transgender actress Bethany Black, and comedian Rufus Hound.
