Doctor Who: Space Babies Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

8. DOWN - The End Of The World (Reprise)

Doctor Who Space Babies
BBC Studios

As bold and brassy as the RTD2 era is shaping up to be, there's a nagging feeling that Russell T Davies only has a finite number of fresh ideas.

Case in point: the scene where the Doctor and Ruby look out into space and discuss mankind making it out among the stars, and the loss of Gallifrey.

It's as if Russell just copied and pasted the same scene from The End of the World, deleted "ROSE" and replaced it with "RUBY". In fact, he wouldn't even need to delete the R.

It's the exact same scene, and the only thing that's changed is the mobile phone technology, as the Doctor sonics Ruby's smartphone so she can phone her Mum back in 2024.

It's not even directed in a visually dynamic way, meaning that as well as sounding like the same, it also looks like a shot-for-shot remake of the earlier scene.
