Doctor Who The Flux: 10 Huge Questions After The Halloween Apocalypse

2. Will The Doctor Open Up To Yaz?

We noted several times in the last couple of series that Yaz was being underused when compared to Graham and Ryan. It would have been lovely to see some of her adventures with the Doctor after the boys had left, but even with Dan now on board, she is likely to play a far bigger role. She has become the Doctor’s closest friend, but it doesn’t always feel like that to her. The Doctor has always been reluctant to talk about her past, but now she is even more guarded. She can hardly open up when she has no idea what is true anymore.

The Yaz of series 13 is tougher, more self-assured and less likely to let her hero get away with things unchallenged. There is an edge to her that will open sharpen the longer the Doctor keeps her at arm’s length. There were few moments for reflection in this episode, but these were reserved for the exchanges between Yaz and the Doctor.

The seeds have been planted for their friendship to be severely tested, potentially even temporarily broken as the Doctor will continue to put them in danger until she gets the answers she is looking for. One thing is clear, the Doctor is going to have to confide in Yaz sooner or later and as a result their bond will become even stronger.
