Doctor Who: The Reality War Review - 4 Ups & 7 Downs

I absolutely love that they bought back Jodie Whittaker for this episode, and managed to do so in a way that didn’t step on Fifteen’s final moments in a way I was worried it would when she first turned up.

Let me be the first to say, I thought Whittaker bought her A-game here, and delivered one of her strongest scenes as The Doctor, bringing some humour, optimism, and authenticity and helping to ground Fifteen in a moment where he needed it. Not to beat a dead horse, but seeing Thirteen without Chibnall’s writing did her a massive favour here, and it’s most certainly evidence that she could have worked with writing that played to her strengths.

I also loved that the scene took the chance to bookend the Yaz arc, confirming that Thirteen did love Yaz in her way, and that Yaz was fully aware of this. It goes a long way to making her somewhat sudden departure feel like it has a little more closure. Also, Thirteen was in serious need of a little self love, and I adore that Fifteen was able to give this to her.

No notes, this was a really sweet scene. Probably my favourite part of the episode.
