Doctor Who: What Happened To Each Doctor After They Left The Show?

Last Regular Episode: Twice Upon A Time

The most recent actor to hang up the sonic screwdriver, Peter Capaldi was last seen in the 2017 Christmas special Twice Upon A Time, where he regenerated into the current Doctor, Jodie Whittaker's Thirteen. Since then, he's continued to stay active in the film and TV worlds, and has one particularly exciting movie project lurking on the horizon.

The biggest thing he did after leaving Doctor Who was his appearance in Disney's Christopher Robin, where he provided the voice of Rabbit, one of the animal friends who lives in Hundred Acre Wood with Piglet, Tigger and Winnie The Pooh.

Then, he appeared in 2019's The Personal History Of David Copperfield alongside Hugh Laurie and Tilda Swinton, but most exciting of all is his next film role, with the actor set to appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad in 2021. It's not just a cameo either: according to the director, Capaldi has a "big role."

On the small screen, Capaldi most notably had a role in the BBC and Netflix's recent adaptation of Watership Down, where he played the seagull Kehaar. He hasn't returned to Doctor Who yet, but he also hasn't completely ruled out a future appearance, either.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
