Doctor Who: William Hartnell’s 10 Best Episodes

5. Dalek's Master Plan

Doctor Who Dalek Master Plan

Episode: Season 3, Episode 4

Companions: Steven Taylor, Katarina, Sarah Kingdom

The Daleks team up with several leaders of galactic governments, including guardian of the solar system, Mavic Chen. Mavic Chen offers the Daleks an element known as Taranium €“ which took 50 years to obtain €“ in exchange for power. The TARDIS lands on the planet Kembel, where the Doctor finds a tape left from a soldier in the episode "Mission to the Unknown" containing the Dalek's plans of universal control. The Doctor, knowing his enemy throughout time, decides to take on the Daleks, yet again in the most intense story-lines of the William Hartnell years. This episode is crazy. Besides Rory, new Who rarely kills off companions. However, in this episode Katarina dies in the second part. Also, Sarah Kingdom, who would have been a wonderful companion, dies in this episode after just starting to trust the Doctor. This episode features the return of the Meddling Monk, a rogue Time Lord set out for revenge against the Doctor. His timing could not be worse with the Daleks on the Doctor's trail for their Taranium. Apart from 3 episodes, this story is also lost, but it is still worth the watch for any loyal fan.
