Doom Patrol Season 1: 8 Ups And 1 Down
6. Up: Every Episode Is Experimental And Unique
An absolute standout element of Doom Patrol is the way no episode is treated as an afterthought. You never know what you're in for when that 'Previously on' recap ends and it's so refreshing to see when other shows in this genre suffer due to forcibly-padded seasons.
Better yet, DP reinforces these imaginative storylines by connecting it effectively to the season's central conflicts. The writers get to utilize their sense of creativity while making the episodes feel like a natural means of progression. Since the search for the Chief involves visiting the endlessly interesting places he'd gone to, you get a great variety of locations and personalities to meet. In addition, thanks to Mr. Nobody's all-powerful ability to direct the story, the show allows itself the possibility to be seemingly rewritten as it's happening.
Perhaps most remarkable of all, not one of the fifteen episodes in season 1 dips below the show's high-quality standard set after its premiere. Usually, there'd be those episodes you can skip to accommodate binging a lengthy season, but just know that you won't want to miss a moment.
