Each Brooklyn Nine-Nine Lead Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Amy Santiago

Amy Santiago
NBC

Amy Santiago - played flawlessly by Melissa Fumero - has a distinct identity, and constantly has the opportunity to be the funniest character in the scene. Traditionally the female lead in a show is presented in a certain way that restricts the amount of comedy that they can apply to the role, thankfully Melissa is not so confined. That shows from her goofy, frequently embarrassing performances.

Santiago has a great connection with everyone else in the cast - her relationship with Holt as a mentor figure is a particular highlight. This makes her position adaptable as she can be placed in any narrative at it always feels appropriate.

Like most characters in the show, Amy is effortlessly charming and likeable. The only issue is that she does slowly slip into the cliché of the obsessive-compulsive workaholic who loves books and overplays the nerd stereotype.

What makes Amy funny is her confidence in being who she is, and fans appreciate this. But her conformity with sit-com archetypes brings her down a little.
