Emmys 2019: 10 Most Outrageous Nomination Snubs

1. Stephen Dorff - Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Limited Series (True Detective)

True Detective Season 3 Premiere4
HBO

In a way, it was to be expected that Stephen Dorff get overlooked here, despite his career reviving performance in True Detective.

Mahershala Ali got all of the press coverage at the time, and with True Detective missing out for Writing, Directing and Limited Series, it would have been strange for both actors to still get the nod.

Gun to the head, Ali probably does deserve it more than Dorff. We saw him struggle with Alzheimer’s and PTSD, as well as getting the lion’s share of the plot and some of the best dialogue the show has ever had. However, that’s not really how it works.

Dorff was supporting Ali this season, hence would be in Outstanding Support. True Detective fans have been reluctantly grateful that at least Ali is up for an award, but they aren’t even in the same category.

When They See Us was phenomenal, but John Leguizamo being nominated feels hollow when fellow nominees Michael Kenneth Williams and Asante Blackk overshadowed him anyway.

He’s not the only one to miss out here either; while Stellan Skarsgård has rightly been recognised for Chernobyl, Paul Ritter has been overlooked, despite him and Dorff both bringing a much needed extra angle to their shows.
