9. Shut Up And Dance

Nine times out of ten, Black Mirror episodes are only as good as their twist, and Shut Up and Dance features a twist so subtle and unsettling that it requires an almost instant re-watch (when you can bear to stomach it again) to find the clues.

In the episode, awkward but lovable teen Kenny (Alex Lawther) finds his laptop hacked and his search history exposed. Desperate to keep it hidden, he joins fellow hacking victim and adulterer Hector (Jerome Flynn) on a series of increasingly dangerous and illegal activities.

Throughout Shut Up and Dance, Kenny is portrayed as the ultimate underdog. Sure, he's a little strange and jittery, but he's instantly likeable and easy to root for. It comes as a shock, then, when the episode turns everything we think we know on its head, in a jaw-dropping and sickening plot twist that will stay with you for days to come.

Expertly acted and brilliantly traumatic, Shut Up and Dance is a simple but effective caper about how we never really know what's going on in someone else's life.
