Vislor Turlough entered the TARDIS as a spy for the Black Guardian. Though they could sense there was something a little off about him, other companions Nyssa and Tegan weren't quite able to put their finger on the issue. He quickly reneged on his deal with the Guardian, refusing to kill the Doctor. He travelled mostly then with Tegan, though they were briefly joined by Kamelion and he met Peri Brown before leaving the TARDIS to return home.

He was a participant in the events of The Five Doctors, during which time he got to know Susan Campbell née Foreman in the TARDIS. As part of his ongoing travel, he met the Silurians and the Sea Devils, though he had little sympathy for either and was forced to shoot one of them to save the Doctor's life.

He had been exiled from his home on Trion, so when Kamelion picked up and locked on to a distress call from a Trion ship, he attempted to dissuade them. They did however land in Lanzarote, where he met his brother and learned of the death of his father. Crucially, he also learned that his exile had ended and he was finally welcomed back home.
