Every Episode Of Atlanta Season One Ranked Worst To Best
2. Episode 2 - Streets On Lock
Streets on Lock finds Atlanta's protagonists facing the aftermath of the season one premiere cliffhanger. Alfred/Paper Boi is released from lockup, while Earn has to spend prolonged amounts of time in the most uncomfortable of circumstances surrounded by the unstable and forgotten.
For Earn; he's the show's thinker and as such just wants to keep his head down. Through no fault of his own, he is drawn into the conversations and altercations of the county lock-up. All the while he awkwardly waits for his turn to be bailed and released.
For Alfred; he finds himself torn between the fresh infamy of being both a musician and wearing a notorious street cred. Before Earn came along, Alfred was a drug dealer and a rapper with a relatively low profile. But as that profile grows, so does his guilt as he sees young kids imitating him; not through his music though, but through his violence.
The episode's two main plots could only ever work side-by-side; as Earn is pulled into the trans and homophobic beliefs of the other locked up inmates, and Alfred watches as his community seems to adore him for acts of aggression. Reminding us that they're screwed no matter what they do.
