7. Episode 01 - Alligator Man
With Robbin' Season kicking off, the city of Atlanta is on edge as everyone is robbing everyone just to survive, but in Earn's case he's been doing that for some time. After Alfred is called by his aunt to help rescue her from her husband, Alfred sends Earn to "manage" the situation.
It's very telling in this episode what kind of relationship Earn and Alfred have. Paper Boi has blown up since the end of the first season, and Earn can sense an expiration date on his usefulness to Alfred. Earn's awareness of where he rests in Alfred's mental pecking order is something that fluctuates throughout the second season, and it's in the first episode that we get then first sign that he is insecure.
Couple this factoid with his Uncle Willie (Katt Williams) who is hinted at being an older version of Earn, both intelligent men with a lot of potential, but Willie burned out and the fear lingers in the Marks family that Earn is heading down the same path.
It's refreshing to see an Earn that isn't so confident in his convictions and for him to acknowledge that he might have doubts in his aspirations comes off as layered.
