60. Little Britain USA
Little Britain’s heyday is just over 15 years in the past, but it feels a lifetime ago. The sketches by David Walliams and Matt Lucas feel regressive and lazy nowadays, and even the show in its absolute prime would be a hard watch, not least for some of the distasteful and often downright objectionable shock tactics they stooped to for laughs.
And Little Britain USA is not the show in its prime. By 2008 the pair had milked their characters for all they were worth (which wasn’t a great deal in a lot of cases), and accordingly had no choice but to hit the reset button across the pond. Vicky Pollard went to brat camp. Daffyd Thomas attended a US university. Lou and Andy went on holiday - the explanations were as simple and lazy as that.
The show continued to pull numbers in the UK, but the USA - presumably the target audience here - weren’t too fussed. The trip across the Atlantic put the final nail in the coffin for Little Britain as a series (though it returned for a few specials long after any remaining good will had fizzled out), so we can thank it for that at least.
