37. Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006)

The New Pope
HBO

Not only did Tsunami: The Aftermath come out far too soon following the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, but it doesn't really have the decency to show the true "aftermath" the title so proudly speaks about.

Some of the devastation is there, and the messy plot is well-disguised in places by the solid ensemble cast (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tim Roth, Toni Collette), but the film's need to see the disaster through the eyes of western vacationers and not on the locals affected by the tragedy makes it feel like some kind of wannabe Hollywood blockbuster. Plus, seriously - far too soon, HBO. Far too soon.
