Every Inside No. 9 Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

21. The Harrowing

Inside No 9
BBC

Plot: A teenage girl (Aimee Ffion-Edwards, who was actually 27 when the episode was made) is hired to look after a creepy old house while the owners are away, but all is not as it seems.

Location: A gothic mansion.

The finale to season one went back up to the heights of the first two episodes and delivered a remarkable horror story that terrified the living daylights out of many viewers. Even the thought of that ending is enough to give one the shivers.

It's a genuinely scary and chilling story for sure, but what takes this episode to the next level is just how funny it is at the same time. It's an infectiously entertaining viewing that mixes comedy and horror with utmost skull, and despite how dark it is The Harrowing still feels like a delightful and satisfying watch that you'll be happy to revisit.

For some reason this seems to be one of the least-popular episodes of the series, so that makes The Harrowing one of the most underrated Inside No. 9 instalments. Yes, the twist was predictable and the ending was abrupt, but aside from that, Inside No. 9's first horror episode was a smashing success.
