Every MCU TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
13. Luke Cage: Season 1
Netflix's third foray with Marvel has a spell-binding zest to it; filmed with grimy authenticity in Harlem's Afro-Amercian community, peppered with a brilliant soundtrack and sharp streetwise dialogue - it really stands out when it comes to superhero origin tales.
Sadly, it's a bit of an unbalanced affair overall. Mike Coulter is noble and strong, but he's not a very captivating lead and comes off as the least interesting character in his own show (at least Simone Missick's Misty Knight is there to pick up the slack).
And who can ignore the fatal move the writer's committed by replacing Masher Ali's captivating villain with Erik LaRay Harvey pantomime stand-in - it was an unorthodox gamble that sadly blows up the producer's faces. Sure, Theo Rossi and Alfre Woodard do their best to support the rogues' gallery but it's too little, too late.
Still, for the first half, it's a solid watch with some delicious moments (e.g. the Wu-Tang infused Warehouse fight) throughout. Also, showrunner Cheo Hodor Coker has such passion for his subject matter you can forgive the writing for not being as Teflon as its titular hero - still, there was much room for improvement next time around.
