Every Star Trek Film & TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best

21. Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)

Star Trek: Insurrection basically seems like one long Next Generation episode with an insanely high visual effects budget. Nothing about the film feels grand enough for the big screen.

Set during the Dominion War, Insurrection would have been the perfect time to show the Dominion and maybe even Deep Space Nine finally in a blockbuster movie. Instead, the writers chose to set it on some unknown planet.

The main story is at least interesting. The aliens, known as the Son'a, and the corrupt Starfleet legislation want to conquer to steal the planet's healing properties from its native people, the Ba'Ku. The Enterprise intervenes and saves the Ba'Ku from being forcefully transported off of their planet.

The biggest issue with this film is the wasted potential. Why would the writers decide to set the movie during the Dominion War but not include any appearances from the many member species of the Dominion? Even a brief skirmish in space would be enough to make this movie feel much more important.
