Every Star Trek Reference, Easter Eggs & Jokes In The Simpsons
9. Set Phasers On Fun
Mayored To The Mob, the ninth episode in season ten, features a whole host of both Star Trek and non-Star Trek references, thanks to a small portion of the episode being set at the aforementioned bi-mon-sci-fi-con, although this is a separate con to the one previously mentioned in the article.
First off, the convention's motto shown as punters enter the venue is "set phasers on fun". Furthermore, Seymour Skinner, as well as numerous other attendees at the convention, is dressed as Spock.
Most notable for eagle-eared listeners, however, occurs when The Comic Book Guy becomes entranced with a nerdy young lady, The Comic Book Gal. Upon meeting her and realising they share similar interests, the background music played comes by way of Alexander Courage. His song, Under The Spell, was featured in the original Star Trek pilot, The Cage.
Not much more ever came of The Comic Book Gal, but we'll always have this Star Trek-related memory of her etched into Simpsons history, and most likely the disturbing mind of The Comic Book Guy.
