Every Star Trek Reference, Easter Eggs & Jokes In The Simpsons

Season nine, episode nineteen of The Simpsons, titled Simpson Tide, sees Homer fired from the nuclear plant after very nearly causing a doughnut-related meltdown.

Now without a job, he enlists in the Naval Reserve after seeing an advertisement on TV, with Barney, Apu, and Moe joining him in what was one of the oddest quartets you're ever going to see offering to serve the country.

Moe is referred to by Homer (who somehow becomes the captain of a military submarine) as Mr. Moe, an obvious Mr. Sulu reference. The 'mister' prefix wasn't just a Star Trek reference, as it is actually a Navy tradition that dates back centuries. But even so the reference is still deliberately Trek, as Mr. Sulu is also a crew member on board, and mentions Rigel VII while setting a course for the ship to travel down.

Rigel VII is, of course, the inhabited seventh planet of the Rigel system within the Alpha Quadrant.
