Family Guy: 50 Best Episodes

46. Spies Reminiscent Of Us

Family Guy 46Season: 8 Episode: 3 Original Air Date: October 11th, 2009 In one of the more random storylines and pop culture references in the show's history, this episode is essentially a remake of the 1988 movie, Spies Like Us. The movie's original actors, Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, were brought in to voice their characters. This was only a couple weeks after the debut episode of Community, so Chase was making his way back to smack dab in the middle of pop culture relevance again. This was good timing for him, and for the show. Aykroyd and Chase's characters move into a house across the street, and their strange activities make Brian and Stewie think they're up to no good, and the episode revolves around trying to figure out whether or not Brian and Stewie are right. It's all pretty straightforward, but having comedy legends like Aykroyd and Chase bringing their own unique styles and deliveries to the episode made it even better, and you could even say they saved the episode from being too weird and too obscure, like some Family Guy episodes are when they focus on a random pop culture event from 20-30 years ago.
