Friends: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

1. Season Three

Friends Season 1
NBC

Season Three is the best that Friends has to offer. The season that solidified its popularity, Season Three features some of the show's most important, wrenching and hilarious arcs and reveals, including Ross and Rachel's break-up, Phoebe finding her real mother, and the introduction of Chandler and Joey's chick and duck.

Bottle episodes like "The One where No One No One's Ready" and "The One with the Football" perfectly show off the gang's chemistry and comedic abilities (as well as the writers' ability to make a good joke out of the most simple of plots), whilst "The One where Ross and Rachel Take a Break" offers up some devastating emotional heft, proving Friends isn't adverse to tackling the non-funny aspects of adult life.

Giovanni Ribisi's portrayal of Phoebe's brother Frank Jr is comedy gold, and Chandler's latest arc with Janice proves to be a compelling and well-written sub-plot.

The episode "The One with the Morning After", whilst sad at its core, is the perfect representation of how well Friends can balance its themes, creating an episode which is both incredibly dramatic and humorous in all the right places.

As far as Friends goes - in terms of character, writing, plotting, and consistency - Season Three is at the top of the pile.
