Friends: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

Like all great shows, it took Friends a few episodes to find its feet. The plot in Season One is simplistic and effective in the beginning, as it sees Rachel come to Monica after running out of her own wedding, but it takes a while to really find any kind of driving plot. Sure, there's Ross' feelings for Rachel, but that's about it.

Because of this lack of drive, characters like Chandler, Phoebe and Joey are underused compared to later seasons and the whole thing seems to be hinging on the Ross/Rachel dynamic. There's funny moments, as always in Friends, and some silly and relatable episodes, sure as "The One with the Birth", but outside of Ben's birth there's no emotional weight keeping the season's story afloat.

That being said, it does hit all the right notes with the final episode, "The One where Rachel Finds Out", which is a fun and moving climax, and the dynamic of the group is strong and compelling right from the get-go. There's just not enough of the later seasons' sincerity and emotion to rank it any higher.
