Friends: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

4. Season Two

Friends Season 1
NBC

Season Two (outside of the final episode of Season Ten) shows us the most compelling and well-paced version of the Ross/Rachel relationship. Finally (properly) getting together in the masterful episode "The One with the Prom Video", their relationship is never more fun or exciting than it is this season. Also, the prom video episode also introduces audiences to the flashback theme, which would go to become a big part of the show.

"The One where Ross and Rachel...You Know" also drives home the idea that their relationship is the emotional centre of the sitcom, and shows fans just how well they work together.

Alongside this clear narrative improvement, Season Two also features some brilliant episodes of comedy with episodes like "The One with the Bullies" and "The One with the Baby on the Bus," both of which allow Joey and Chandler to shine and show audiences that they're more than just second fiddle to Ross.

Eddie, too, is a fantastic addition to the show, a crazy and hilarious side character who acts as a foil in the now-rocking friendship of Chandler and Joey.

The season is let down by the introduction of Russ, a bizarre Ross double who is off-putting and just too odd to be funny, and "The One with the List" brings an anti-climax to the Ross/Rachel proceedings that doesn't so much add tension as it does annoy and frustrate.
