It's almost tradition for an animated show to include some form of a Godfather or Goodfellas parody, and "Bender Gets Made" introduces a fantastic version of that with the Robot Mafia. And this one has got it all; Bender as the lowly bus boy that works his way up the mob ranks, a hyperactive goon that is way too into his job and even a heartfelt plea for sympathy from Donbot by a desperate robot on his last leg. All the cliches we've come to love from the mobster movie work to great affect here, as Bender is already the kind of robot you would expect to be a part of organized crime anyway. It also features a clever action climax on the Planet Express ship and sees Bender using his voice modulator's "king" setting to throw off his friends, proving once more that you can always count on DiMaggio to make something work like a charm.
29. Roswell That Ends Well
If you're not careful, time travel can end up completely screwing your entire story up to the point of no return, but "Roswell That Ends Well" is one of the most perfect uses of the genre that there is. All the tropes of time travel are here, culminating in a disturbing use of the dreaded grandfather paradox. "Roswell That Ends Well" owes a great debt to Back to the Future and Star Trek, making use of a large number of tropes from the genre. Fate vs free will, as well as the uncertainty of how our choices shape the future, it's all here in one little episode that also plugs into a ton of our own pop culture.
