Futurama: 50 Best Ever Episodes

28. Parasites Lost

If you're a fan of the Fry/Leela romance subplot, then "Parasites Lost" is absolutely the episode for you; at least for a little while. Best described as Journey to the Center of the Fry, it details Fry gaining super intelligence thanks to a questionable decision to eat an egg salad sandwich in a men's bathroom. The Holophonor sequence alone almost makes the episode, with some beautiful images that don't need words to speak volumes. Leela's deliciously senseless slaughter of the micro-Planet Express crew in order to stop them from reverting Fry to normal speaks to something deep within her, as it seems obvious that she does at least want to be with Fry in some way. Even more heartbreaking is that Fry is willing to let Leela go in order to see if she would still date him, a reminder about how we judge ourselves in our own way.

27. When Aliens Attack

You've really gotta admire it when shows like Futurama and South Park take ample opportunities to openly mock the very networks they air on, which is exactly what "When Aliens Attack" does right off the bat. The Fox Network are fair game, as Fry inadvertently knocks them off the air with nary a thought. After all, no one on Earth even cares if Fox goes off the air, right? Any episode with the Omicronians is worth your time, and this is a great use of their hilariously dry wit. Watching them obsess over human television in the same way that we all do, only in their own peculiar, warrior-driven way, is the strongest part of the episode. It also speaks to the state of television in general, where the logic of solving the world's problems within an hour is brilliantly subverted by New New York being in ruins at the end with no one the wiser.
