While Futurama had great fun lambasting the year 2000 and all the foibles that came with it, "Future Stock" takes a moment to poke fun at another memorable decade; the 1980's, where everything was about excess and the highs and lows of the stock markets. It also features one of Mom's best appearances, as the hostile relationship between Planet Express and Mom's Friendly Robot Company escalates. That Guy, a Gordon Gekko wannabe that is perpetually stuck in the 80's, is also one of the show's most under appreciated villains. His alliance with Mom ultimately seals his fate as a jerk, but his interactions with Fry are fantastic. These are two guys that come from the same generation, but couldn't be more different at the end of the day.
17. Where No Fan Has Gone Before
It's very clear that the writers of Futurama have a deep affinity for Star Trek, as it's one of the more continuously referenced pieces of pop culture on the series. Heck, the very first line in the series is Fry reciting the opening narration from The Original Series, so you know the show means business. "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" re-unites most of the Original Series crew again, exiling them on a planet that seems to be hosting the worst Star Trek convention ever. Melllvar's rivalry with Fry is fun to watch, as these two major geeks play a game of one-upping each other and it serves as one of the greatest tributes to the Original Series that has ever existed.
