Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Believable Fan Theories

3. CleganeBowl

Game Of Thrones Fire Sword

The Clegane brothers were two of the most fearsome warriors; giants of men who loved nothing than having a sword in hand and being right in the middle of a fight. They lived by the sword, and died by it too (or spear, in Gregor’s case). However, they may both be coming back, and there’s a strong chance we’ve already seen them.

When Brienne is on her search for the Hound and the Stark girls, she heads to the Quiet Isle. There the Elder Brother reveals to her his fate, although his wording is somewhat ambiguous. He states the man she seeks is dead, and the Hound died in his arms. However, of Sandor Clegane, he only says that “he is at rest.” He also discusses his own second life, indicating a different view on what death really means, and Sandor’s notoriously uncontrollable horse is in the stables. What would seem to be the clincher is the gravedigger Brienne sees, a man bigger than her, but wounded, and at one point seen petting a dog. The Hound is dead, but Sandor Clegane may still live.

The Mountain, meanwhile, is clearly the mysterious monster that the Dr Frankenstein-like Maester Qyburn has been working on. We get glimpses and hints of this creature, and Frankenburn tells Cersei he is creating a new member of the Kingsguard, one no living man will be able to withstand. This is Ser Robert Strong, aka the reanimated corpse of Gregor Clegane.

The CleganeBowl theory comes after both these resurrections, and states that Robert Strong will be Cersei’s champion in her trial by combat. It then posits that Sandor/the Gravedigger will be champion of the Faith, pitting the two brothers together in a fight to the death. An added bonus to this is that Sandor is the younger brother, making him a legit contender to be the Valonqar.
