Was the number 1 spot ever in doubt? The audience's introduction to Joffrey set the tone for his character perfectly, bullying Arya and the butcher's boy until Arya's dog Nymeria leaps to their aide. Weak, prissy and almost inconceivably twisted, Joffrey is a slimeball from the very start. As soon as his 'father' Robert dies, and he is elevated to the throne, the rules go out of the window, and Ned Stark is coldly dispatched, even after begging for mercy. Say what you like about Joffrey, but he's certainly become a very effective hate-sponge, to the extent that Jack Gleeson has effectively retired in anticipation of the extended hatred he's likely to attract if he continues in the limelight. So spiritually ugly, so disturbing, such a piece of work that when he finally bit the dust, people wondered if poison was too good for him. It's nice Sansa got a bit of peace though; she certainly deserved it and King's Landing is a safer place for everybody now that Joffrey's out of the picture.
