Game Of Thrones: 12 Ups And 5 Downs From Season 7

2. A Song Of Ice And Fire

Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen have long been the two central protagonists of this story, and yet had been kept worlds apart. That was always likely to change in Season 7, with Dany coming to Westeros, but the how and when was unknown. A meeting six years (or over 20, for long-time book readers), there was a huge amount of pressure on the biggest coming together of two characters in the series' history.

Mercifully, they nailed it.

Their first meeting on Dragonstone was a tense, slightly awkward affair, punctuated by the input of their respective right-hand men, before things eased into an increasingly strong chemistry between them.

It all happened rather quickly, but there was a tinge of rivalry, a hint of attraction, and a lot of weight in the representations of ice and fire being, and then working together, eventually building to the romantic climax in The Dragon and the Wolf.

Quite where it goes from there is unclear, since Jon may be uncomfortable with incest, Dany will still want to rule, and there's a strong suggestion of them having a child together. But for Season 7 to pivot around these two more than ever before, with them now joined together, was a wise move, and a major success given how much was riding on it.

Yay, incest!
