9. Mother's Mercy (S5 E10)
Well, that was a kick in the face. A lot of deaths in Game of Thrones, if not all of them, have great impacts for the rest of the season, and most of the major deaths have some form of aftermath, but not in the case of Jon Snow. His death scene was the last of the season, giving absolutely no indication of what will happen next, or if he can even come back, as so many fans have speculated with the emergence of Melisandre at the Wall. Fans also got to see Stannis crumbling to a walkover defeat, and while some wanted to see the battle, focusing on the sheer hopelessness of the situation proved more effective than watching the inevitable butchering play out. There was a whole load of other minor cliffhangers in the episode, leaving very little fully wrapped up, with Daenerys, Sansa, Theon, and Arya all in some form of peril, while Jaime was rocked with the death of Myrcella in his arms. Cersei's walk of shame was also handled expertly, and provided an immense fall from grace, so it will be interesting to see how she picks herself up from it.
