Game Of Thrones: 15 Moments That Pissed Off The Fans

13. Barristan Dies

Sansa Game Of Thrones
HBO

Viewers were understandably surprised this season when, at the end of Season 5 Episode 4, Sons of the Harpy, it appeared that both Barristan Selmy and Grey Worm had perished in a battle with the titular group. A week later, it was confirmed that while Grey Worm had survived, Barristan had not been so lucky.

If this was a shock to the TV audience, it was bigger for readers of the book. Barristan not only lives in A Dance With Dragons, he has point-of-view chapters and a key role in what happens in Meereen. It’s unclear what shape Daenerys’ story will take without him, and it was a shame to see the character go (although he wasn’t as well-developed in the show), with Ian McElhinney, the actor who plays him, among those to express disappoint at his premature end.
