11. Missing Characters (Part 1...)
As a show with the job of balancing a huge ensemble, it’s understandable that some characters don’t make it from the page to the screen, or are compounded into one character.
The role of Edric Storm blends into that of Gendry, while Sansa Stark - rather than a fake Arya - marries Ramsay. But then there are some characters who are either very important, or just extremely popular, that fans cannot believe haven’t made it.
One of these is Coldhands, the mysterious man who helps Bran and Co. on their route North of The Wall. There are many theories about his identity (believed by some to be Benjen Stark,or possibly Waymar Royce) and his intentions, though he appears to be a wight, but one able to talk and on the side of good. Given Bran’s journey thus far has reached its end, it’s unlikely he’ll be seen anytime soon.
Strong Belwas is another, a fighter who helps bring Ser Barristan to Daenerys and provides moments of levity that are missing from her story. He loves eating and fighting, and becomes a trusted advisor of Dany. His role may not be that pivotal in the grand scheme of things, and can certainly be replaced by others (as parts already have by Daario), but it’s disappointing such a fan-favourite won’t be making an appearance.
