Sometimes, true capacity for terrible deeds can be veiled beneath an unruffled exterior. Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock and current Hand to the King, is one such man.
It seems to be common knowledge among the Seven Kingdoms that Lord Tywin is the true ruler. With all the wealth of Casterly Rock, he is the richest man in the realm, and with his wealth he is ruthlessly astute. His authority, intelligence, and undaunted gaze give him something close to a leash over his grandson King Joffrey. He dedicates his life to upholding the prestige of House Lannister, and though hard as he may seem, he is supposedly no harder than he has to be. His father left House Lannister in bad shape Tywin, since a young age, has worked to restore his house back to full respect. In the wake of The War of the Five Kings, Tywin works doggedly to create a grand legacy.
To exemplify his capabilities, we need only look once again to the Red Wedding. Lord Walder Frey would never have dared to do what he did without the backing of Lord Tywin. Despite the monstrous nature of it, Tywins reasons for engineering the slaughter were, in a sense, well justified (Walder Freys reasons were not half so prudent). In a stroke, the war was all but settled, and victory for the crown ensured. It spared the lives of thousands upon thousands of men from the wars that would have inevitably followed, had the Red Wedding not happened.
So we can see that Tywin is formidably calculated, and this is what makes him so dangerous. The man will oust you in a battle of the mind without even flinching. You could have the world at your feet wealth, a happy and successful marriage, lands, power, strength and respect, and in a sentence, Lord Tywin could crush and stamp you into tiny, insignificant pieces.
I believe that Lord Tywin Lannister is perhaps the most badass character in Game of Thrones, and cool as he is, never in a million years would I desire to meet him, lest his stare alone makes me soil myself.
