2. Kill It With Fire!
It's a valid response, and you'd think it would be a sensible one, given they're ice creatures. Well, actually, normal fire doesn't work against them, because they're so unnaturally cold it doesn't cause any damage. So far we know of only two things that can defeat them: dragonglass and Valyrian steel. Sam has used the former, and Jon the latter. There's not an awful lot of Valyrian steel left in the world, almost certainly not enough to defeat an army of White Walkers anyway. There is a lot of dragonglass, but it's buried beneath dragonstone, and may not be the most effective option for taking out large numbers of them. However, it is widely believed that dragon fire will be able to destroy them (especially due to the prominence of it in the making of both dragonglass and Valyrian steel). The big theory for how the series is going to end is that it'll be the White Walkers vs the dragons, a battle of ice and fire.
