Game Of Thrones: 8 Potential Spin-Offs (And How They Might Work)

4. The Dance Of The Dragons

If there's one resource that will never be exhausted in the A Song Of Ice And Fire canon, it's war. One of the most famous wars is the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that took place during the Targaryen rule of the Seven Kingdoms. The conflict was between Aegon II and his half-sister Rhaenyra, a battle over who would succeed their father's throne.

Whereas an adaptation of the Blackfyre Rebellions might be more action-orientated, there's just as much political drama during the Dance of the Dragons that it could rival Game Of Thrones itself in scope and complexity. The material is so vast that it could easily last multiple seasons – and there's still plenty of action, like the Fall of King's Landing.

Fears of such a gargantuan conflict not being done justice by TV showrunners can be assuaged, too, by the fact that George R. R. Martin himself plans to publish an 80,000 word history of the war titled Fire And Blood. And an abridged version – The Princess And The Queen – already exists, as part of the Dangerous Women anthology.
