Game Of Thrones: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
38. Walk Of Punishment (S3E3)
Written By: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Directed By: David Benioff
A rare episode that was directed by the showrunners, Walk of Punishment is another fine example of the level of quality the show was operating at during its third season, and also an example of how the show can do humour.
In this episode we have Edmure Tully comically failing to fire an arrow onto his father's funeral pyre, the reveal of Pod's prowess in the bedroom, Cersei and Tyrion jostling for position at a Small Council meeting, and then the OMG ending: Jaime Lannister, finest swordsman in the land, has his sword hand chopped off... and then the end credits roll, accompanied by The Hold Steady.
37. Valar Morghulis (S2E10)
Written By: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Directed By: Alan Taylor
The last episode directed by Alan Taylor, before he made his ill-fated departure to Hollywood (he's coming back for Season 7), Valar Morghulis continues a strong end to one of Thrones' weaker seasons.
Tyrion wakes to find that Tywin has replaced him as Hand of the King, while Margaery replaces Sansa as Joffrey's betrothed, and at Winterfell Theon is knocked out by his own men. This is also the episode that sees Robb marry Talisa, Daenerys get here dragons back, and the epic ending shot of the White Walkers and wights on the march, with a cowering Sam looking on (but ignored).
