Game Of Thrones: Every Episode Ranked From Worst To Best

30. The Queen's Justice (S7E3)

Olenna Game Of Thrones
HBO

Written By: David Benioff & D.B. Weiss Directed By: Mark Mylod

An excellent mid-point episode, as Season 7 really started to get into its stride, and one bookended by huge moments.

At the beginning you have the meeting of Jon and Daenerys, which is the biggest meeting of two characters in the history of the show. With two decades of expectation there was a lot of pressure, but in a tense, nervy, and funny scene, they totally nailed it. At the end, meanwhile, we said goodbye to a player so good at the game she won even in death, with another stellar performance from Diana Rigg.

Add in Cersei's vengeance - with a mesmerising, ferocious performance from the great Lena Headey - and there's a lot to like here. On the downside, there's Bran.

29. The Old Gods And The New (S2E6)

Game of Thrones Joffrey Sansa
HBO

Written By: Vanessa Taylor Directed By: David Nutter

One of Season 2's strongest episodes, there's a lot going on here that feels pretty important, and is compelling to watch. Theon takes Winterfell, supposedly a show of his power, but then completely botches the execution of Ser Rodrik. Ygritte is introduced in this episode, beginning the show's great, doomed romance. And riots in King's Landing almost end horrifically for Sansa, before she's saved by the Hound.

If all that's not enough, then we also get another great instance of Tyrion smacking Joffrey right in the kisser.
