Game Of Thrones Season 6: 11 Big Questions We're Asking After 'Oathbreaker'

5. Is Smalljon Umber Really Betraying The Starks?

Game of Thrones Jon Snow question
HBO

House Umber is among the most loyal bannermen of House Stark, having served them for centuries. Greatjon Umber, the member of the family we'd previously met on the show, was a fierce supporter of Robb Stark, and among the first to declare him King in the North. Their support was so strong that Rickon headed there at the end of Season 3, and has remained safe and in secret ever since.

And yet, now, here comes Smalljon Umber to deliver the boy to Ramsay, after killing his direwolf? Something just doesn't quite add up about that. Why would the Umbers now be supporting the Boltons, especially if they know Rickon is alive? Then there's Smalljon's actions here, and the way he refuses to actually say or do anything that might be binding or constitute an oath.

Is there more to his plans than meets the eye - maybe there's a different reason for delivering Rickon now? Maybe that's not really Shaggydog? - or is he simply deciding to back the winning side?
