Game Of Thrones Season 6: 8 Things That Don't Make Any Sense (So Far)

6. What's The Deal With Davos?

Game Of Thrones Brienne Melisandre
HBO

As inevitable as Jon Snow's resurrection was, it was also fairly inevitable that it would cause some curious character inconsistencies. The fact is, we all knew it was coming, so the writers weren't in a particularly great position. Draw out the return too long and the story can't really progress, but drop it immediately and the death has little meaning.

Still, the scenes leading up to the actual resurrection raise a bunch of questions. For a start, Davos has been depicted as doubtful and afraid of Mel's dark magic (and Mel as a person), so his decision to randomly ask her not only to use these powers, but whether or not she specifically knows how to resurrect people seemed contrived.

Davos was also curiously quick to completely forget about Stannis' daughter Shireen – who he has been shown to deeply care about – when Brienne shows up. He's asks Melisandre whether or not she's safe, Melisandre suspiciously hesitates and then he completely drops the questioning after Brienne interrupts. The fact he's totally okay with not receiving an answer to whether or not she's still alive is totally out of character.

Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos, did mention in an interview before the season that Shireen would be addressed, but given the fact that we've seen Davos forget about whether she's safe or not within seconds just because someone interrupts him means it'll be harder not to see his future upset as contrived.
