Game Of Thrones Season 6: 8 Things That Don't Make Any Sense (So Far)
1. Daenerys And The Flammable Everything
The close of the fourth episode of season six titled Book Of The Stranger is on the surface pretty incredible. Daenerys, having been essentially kidnapped by the Dothraki, meets with the Khals and sets the temple of the Dosh Khaleen ablaze, emerging triumphantly having killed them all.
It's entertaining stuff, but it's a scene that doesn't make much sense for a bunch of reasons. Forgiving the fact that Jorah and Daario, having infiltrated the Khals' camp which is thousands of tents big, just happen to stumble upon Dany while she's on her way for a pee, the actual mechanics of the fire are totally bizarre.
All it takes are four torches being tipped over to burn down the temple of the Dosh Khaleen within seconds. Many people have wondered how exactly the hard, sandy ground caught fire, but it's probably fair to say the lanterns are filled with oil. Nevertheless, given the size of the lanterns and the sheer size of the temple, the whole thing is pretty ludicrous. Watching Dany tip a single torch over in one scene and seeing flame spread UP a staircase (how can oil travel up stairs?) in the next is pretty jarring. It's easy to be blinded by how epic it all is, but it really makes no sense unless you subscribe to the theory that someone pre-smeared the ground with oil, which we don't have much reason to believe. Artistic license? Sure. Realistic? Not a chance.
