Although the two died in different places by different means, their deaths are linked because of the purpose they each served in the slow-build to the wildfire explosion in the Sept.

It was via both Lancel and Pycelle that we gradually approached the wildfire going off, and the pair being led to their fates was a great way of building the tension, accompanied by that incredible, dramatic score; a great starter to the Sept's main course. The green flames reflected in Lancel's eyes was a superb shot, while Pycelle being stabbed by the children was a suitably creepy moment that added to the overall atmosphere.

As for the characters, it's hard to say either will be missed, but that's because they'd both served their purpose, meaning the timing was right for them to be killed off.
