Cause Of Death: Thrown from a bridge by his brother, Euron Greyjoy.

In fairness, you'd be forgiven for thinking Balon was already dead. He was really old when we last saw him, and that was way back in Season 3. However, the King in the Iron Islands was hanging on, just long enough for his brother to return, kill him off, and take the crown.

The scene itself is really well-played, with strong work from Patrick Malahide and Pilou Asbæk. Set amidst a thundering storm, the backdrop gives the scene a highly-charged, atmospheric feel, and it builds to its conclusion as it becomes increasingly apparent that Euron is unhinged and intent on killing his brother. It's certainly one heck of an introduction, even if Euron is a little underused in the rest of the season.

Oh, and yes, this was another MIA character brought back just to be killed off.
