Game Of Thrones Season 7: Everything We Know So Far

7. The Directors

Game Of Thrones Season 7

With only seven episodes to fill this time around, it means the show is having to shape-up the formula - slightly - of having five directors doing two episodes each.

It's not too different, but Season 7 will see three directors tackling two episodes, and then one director taking on just a single instalment. As revealed last year, they are:

Jeremy Podeswa, who last year gave us the Season 6 premiere, and it's follow-up Home, which gave us the resurrection of Jon Snow at its climax. According to Watchers on the Wall, he'll direct the premiere and finale.

Mark Mylod, who delivered the Season 6 episodes The Broken Man and No One, which were two of the weaker episodes in a writing sense, but looked absolutely gorgeous. He'll reportedly direct episode 2, and then either 3 or 4.

Matt Shakman - the sole newcomer, the bulk of his TV work has come on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, which makes him a rather surprising choice. He's set to direct episode 5 as per WotW, and then 3 or 4 too.

Finally there's Alan Taylor, returning to the fold for the first time since Season 2. Director of Baelor, he'll be handling episode 6 this year, which in a shortened season is effectively the all-important ninth episode.

Unfortunately that does mean there's no place for Miguel Sapochnik, who has delivered some of the show's greatest ever episodes (Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, and The Winds of Winter are all top 10 at the very least), but it's still a strong line-up without him.
