Game Of Thrones Season 8: 15 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It
6. Betraying Jaime's Redemption Arc
What's worse than Jaime hooking up with Brienne only to leave her? Leaving her to go back to Cersei and completely un-doing the character development and redemption he seeked from leaving Cersei.
If that doesn't really anger you, this will: In episode 5, when Tyrion tells Jaime that Cersei needs to surrender to save the innocents of King’s Landing, Jaime tells him that he never really cared for the people of King’s Landing “innocent or otherwise”. This is said by the same man who killed the Mad King because he was going to burn thousands of innocents with wildfire. The same man who left his sister to fight the dead and defend the living. And with one simple sentence, eight years of character development are completely ignored and thrown out the window.
Jaime deserved better. He should have died trying to protect the innocents of King's Landing, even though that would ultimately fail. He should not have died embracing his sister, especially knowing how evil she was.
To quote YouTube critic Jeremy Jahns, "It's like Jaime Lannister stabbed the Mad King in the back, and writers of the show stabbed Jaime Lannister in the back."
But hey, maybe it is a fitting end for him: We started this show hating Jaime, now we end it hating him again.
