Game Of Thrones Season 8: 15 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It

5. You've Been Sidelined, Jon Snow

Game of Thrones Jon Snow
HBO

The hero’s journey isn’t exactly something that works out for characters in Game of Thrones – just ask Ned or Robb Stark. But Jon Snow was different. He literally came back from the dead, rose from being the bastard of Winterfell to the King in the North, and was revealed to be the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Aegon Targaryen. That doesn’t mean he was ever going to win the iron throne or that he even should have, just that he was clearly meant to have a key role in the story’s conclusion, especially with the inevitable conflict it would create with his queen/aunt/lover Daenerys.

And yet, Jon is strangely sidelined. Though he does have huge moments, like discovering his true parentage, fighting the white walkers and killing Daenerys after she slaughters King’s Landing, he doesn’t really do much else throughout the entire season aside from blabbing about his true identity, saying he doesn’t want the throne and that Daenerys is his queen. And having a screaming match with an undead dragon.

Not to mention, after all Jon goes through, the closure to his arc is decidedly anti-climactic. It was a fitting end for him, but it didn't feel earned because of how little he was really involved in the final season. Plus, the reveal that he's in fact a Targaryen ultimately meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

At least he, Tormund, and Ghost get to spend the rest of their days going on adventures beyond the Wall, sledding and having the time of their lives.
